Vitebsk Marc Chagall Museum expands collection with Ossip Zadkine works
VITEBSK, 11 September (BelTA) – For the first time in its history, the Marc Chagall Museum in Vitebsk has acquired three graphic prints by Ossip Zadkine, the renowned 20th-century sculptor and graphic artist, director of the cultural institution Irina Voronova told BelTA.
Born in Vitebsk, the artist spent two years as Marc Chagall’s classmate during their time at the local four-year municipal school, studying under the mentorship of Yudel Pen. Much like his schoolmate, he later lived in Paris’ famous La Ruche (The Beehive) artist’s residence, where he immersed himself in avant-garde movements. Today, his monumental sculptures adorn major cities worldwide, and his cubist and post-cubist easel sculptures are featured in the collections of top-tier museums. Zadkine was also highly active in easel drawing and printmaking.
